Comment DBCC-4381

The proposal to pair Dywfor Meirionydd with Montgomeryshire & Glyndwr creates a huge and unwieldly constituency.

This is due to the decision to link Ynys Mon with Bangor Aberconwy due the direct road connection - with the implication that it was not possible to link Ynys Mon with Dwyfor Meirionydd due to the lack of direct road connection. However, it is also stated that consideration was given to pairing Dwyfor Meirionydd with Ceredigion Preseli, despite there being no direct road connection (the only road passing outside of the constituency via Machynlleth.

Accepting that the road between Ynys Mon and Dwyfor Meirionydd passes just outside of the constituency, the travel links nevertheless remain good, and a pairing of Ynys Mon with Dwyfor Merionydd (suggested name Gwynedd & Mon) would work equally as well as a pairing with Bangor Aberconwy.

This would then require Bangor Aberconwy to be paired with Clwyd North (suggested name Bro Colwyn); Clwyd East to be paired with Alyn & Deeside (suggested name Clwyd & Dee); and Wrexham to be paired with Montgomeryshire & Glyndwr (suggested name Wrexham & Montgomeryshire)

All of the above proposals work equally as well as the original proposals but significantly improve the Dwyfor Meirionydd and Montgomeryshire Glyndwr areas.
