Comment DBCC-4582

To merge Cardiff West with Cardiff North and Cardiff East with South and Penarth. For the following reasons;

1. Cardiff West and North have good road links, they also have very good public transport links. The Valleys Train Line travels through Cardiff North then Cardiff West and back to Cardiff North. Under this new proposal the Valleys line is not cut through two different constituencies. This enables travel through the constituency in an environmentally friendly manner.

2. Pontyclun was added to Cardiff West and Taffs Well to Cardiff North. Culturally it would be beneficial to include the two Rhondda Cynon Taff areas in the same constituency.

3. As there is a goal to use Welsh only names for constituencies where possible, the alliteration of ‘Gogledd & Gorllewin’ and ‘Dwyrain & De’ makes it easier for non-fluent Welsh speakers pronounce the areas.

4. The former Cardiff Central seat has been split between Cardiff South and Penarth and the new Cardiff East seat. By merging Cardiff South and Penarth with Cardiff East the former Cardiff Central seat would be in a single constituency.
