Comment DBCC-4618
I would like as a County Councillor in Montgomeryshire first to confirm my support for the suggestion of twinning Meirionnydd and Dwyfor with Montgomery and Glyndwr. There are several reasons for this including:
• a long cultural history e.g. the Powys Eisteddfod moves annually and includes Bala and Corwen along with Montgomery and Rhos within the catchment area
• the Mountain Sheep Society is a Montgomery and Meirion society.
• North Montgomery farmers go to Dolgellau market every Friday
• the same agricultural co-operative with markets at Machynlleth Dolgellau and Bala.
• some on the border in the Dyfi Valley use public services on either side of the Powys/Gwynedd border
• some areas eg Llanbrynmair go to Porthmadog to do some big shopping
• the rural challenges in both areas are the same
• of course, the story of Owain Glyndwr unites Glyndyfrdwy and Corwen with Machynlleth, Sycharth and Llansilin
• there is nothing in common between Montgomery and Wrexham.
The only suggestion I have is to change the name to the new area to - Gwynedd and North Powys
This would also help you when considering the name for the Brecknock and Radnor constituency......... I suggest using South Powys. Swansea and Neath Valley
Yours sincerely
