Comment DBCC-7029

Dear friends
Thank you for your work in drawing up proposals for the new Welsh constituencies. That is a challenging exercise and with the constraints placed on you, the work that has been done is very reasonable in my view.
I would like to make one comment on the combinations, as someone who has stood in the previous Cardiff South and Penarth constituency - which is now split between Cardiff South and Cardiff East. Although there is a case for the combination you suggest I would like to ask you to consider carefully whether the other possible combination in Cardiff would better reflect community ties. I recognise that an argument could be made for either combination, but I think the strongest rationale is in favour of a North West seat and a South East seat (as it has been in years past).
As the legislation requires you to specify monolingual (Welsh) names wherever possible, I don't think the proposals as they stand meet that requirement.
I would like to suggest some names as follows (starting in the North):

Mon Menai
Wrecsam Fflint
Gwynedd Glyndwr
Ceredigion Sir Benfro
Sir Gâr
Gŵyr Abertawe
De Powys, Tawe a Nedd
Taf Cynon (the new Merthyr constituency etc... I did think of Cynon Taf but as the Taff flows through Merthyr and Pontypridd)
Afan, Ogwr, Garw a Rhondda
Blaenau Gwent a Caerffili
Casnewydd Islwyn

Yours sincerely
