Comment DBCC-7073
I think that the proposals put forward by the DBCC are fine as they are, although I can propose a few alternate constituency parings for the South of the country. I think Aberafan-Maesteg should be paired with Bridgend. Rhondda-Ogmore should be paired with Pontypridd. Merthyr Tydfil and Aberdare should be paired with Blaenau Gwent and Rhymney. Caerphilly should be paired with Cardiff North. Cardiff East should be paired with Cardiff South and Penarth, and Cardiff West should be paired with the vale of Glamorgan. As these boundaries are only going to be in place temporarily however, I don't think it really matters. Furthermore, as the constituencies currently have to be made up of pairings of existing Westminster constituencies, no result is ever going to produce a completely satisfactory pairing for each constituency, especially in the North of the country. I look forward to seeing boundaries in the future which aren't based on pairings of existing constituencies, as these will likely take into account local identities and geography more than these current proposals ever could.
