Comment DBCC-7745

I believe that the interests of the Welsh language would benefit if Cardiff North and Cardiff West were united.

These two parts of the city form the area where use of the Welsh language is highest, as reflected in the location of Ysgol Glantaf and Ysgol Plasmawr, and their feeder primary schools. I have been involved with both schools as a parent and as a staff member. I feel that joint representation for these two Cardiff areas would provide a major boost for the Welsh language in the future. We already take linguistic characteristics into account when planning communities in the traditional strongholds of the Welsh language (North and West Wales), but it is important that we also do so for Cardiff, since it is now an important place in terms of the growth and future of our language.

I therefore suggest uniting Cardiff North and Cardiff West. This would also involve uniting Cardiff East and Cardiff South and Penarth, which is a reasonable combination, without causing far-reaching consequences across the wider map.

I attach a map indicating the wards which have a higher percentage of Welsh speakers than the average for Cardiff, according to the 2021 census (coloured yellow). There are only three exceptions outside these two constituencies.
