Submission to the Boundaries Commission from
[REDACTED] Wrexham
September 2024
I wish to make a submission to the Democracy and Boundary Commission Senedd Pairings first Draft, and propose an alternative to the pairing of Montgomeryshire and Glyndwr with Dwyfor and Meirionydd.
I would see the pairings in the north changed to:
Ynys Mon & Dwyfor Meirionedd
Bangor and Clwyd West
Clwyd East & Alyn & Deeside
Wrexham & Glyndwr and Montgomeryshire.
Reason for Change
Size of the Constituency. I object to the size of the pairing on the grounds of the scale of the scale of the geography, to have a constituency running from Rhostyllen, Johnstown, Rhos Ruabon, Acrefair, Cefn Mawr and Chirk in the north to Bardsey Island in the west and Langurig in the south east will not enable the elected official to serve the needs of the constituents. In the north we have some of the months deprived areas in Wales and they need a Senedd member to represent them. The needs of the areas are totally different.
Road Links
To travel between the north and south of Montgomery and Glyndwr we already have to travel outside the constituency. For the proposed constituency us in the north will have to travel through two other constituencies.
Preferred Pairing
My preferred pairing of Montgomery and Glyndwr and Wrexham keeps the constituency in two county councils, two crime commissioners areas and is far more accessible with road networks. We all have an established working relationship with Wrexham as we elect councillors, pay our council tax, and have much better cultural and social ties.
I hope this submission will be considered. I firmly believe that if your proposal of pairing goes through many constituents in the Glyndwr area will feel more disenfranchised by this than they felt when the new constituency of Montgomery & Glyndwr was formed. We live in a democracy and disenfranchising people is not the way forward.
Thankyou for considering my submission.
