Comment DBCC-7866

I do not believe that the residents of Bridgend are best served with a twinning of Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan.

After the General Election residents have been confused as to who the MP is as boundaries changed. Though I am sure this will be temporary. Residents have questioned why these changes were made particularly within Cornelly.

It is my opinion rather than twinning Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan. Residents of Bridgend would be better suited being twinned with Aberafan Maesteg.

Porthcawl residents within the boundary of Bridgend have more association with outlying communities with Aberafan Maesteg, such as Cornelly and Pyle. Cornelly and Pyle is a natural choice for residents of Porthcawl when looking to purchase a home when Porthcawl can be easily unaffordable. Also the GP practice within Cornelly by residents of Porthcawl is a prominent feature.

Porthcawl also runs a very real risk of becoming politically isolated.

Residents also have long standing connections with the use of Aberavon Beach arguably more favourable do to ease of travel than that of Barry. This could be argued down to geographical barriers such as the Ogmore River creating a natural boundary between the communities of Porthcawl to Ogmore by Sea and other settlements within the Vale of Glamorgan.
