Senedd 2026 Review – Proposed boundaries for new Senedd Constituencies (Sept. 2024)
Dear Counsel General James and the Boundaries Commission
I am objecting to the proposed Constituency boundaries as I think they, especially for those incredibly geographically large rural constituencies, do not reflect the demography and voter opinions of well established local communities. I live in Montgomeryshire, only, reluctantly acknowledging, to be also living within the overlarge LA of Powys. In the recent UK General Election I found myself in the enlarged (and rather strangely named) constituency, of Montgomeryshire & Glyndwr - how any Government could conjoin two completely different demographies baffles me (and this just to keep voter numbers vaguely equal across all of Wales' constituencies).
But now I find that I may, in future Senedd elections find myself in an absolutely huge constituency, again of vastly different demograhies with, perhaps, the only unifying factor being that all of its constituents live somewhere in Wales. This is plain wrong! It is as wrong as increasing the number of Senedd members from 60 to 96 and also that I will no longer have the ability to vote for an individual MS candidate but instead have foisted upon me only the choice of voting for a Political Party. (How will I be able to put my name forward as an Independent Candidate for the 'Dwyfor Meirionydd / Montgomeryshire and Glyndwr constituency' at the next Senedd election).
Please can you, both, acknowledge receipt of this Email, and from the Counsel General some explanation behind these non democratic alterations to Wales' governance.
