Dear Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru,
As a member of the Welsh public, I am writing to express my strong support for the Commission’s Initial Proposals for the boundary review in Wales. Having lived in Merthyr, Pontypridd, and now Bridgend, and having worked in Cardiff and Ogmore Vale, I appreciate the local connections and community ties in these areas.
The decision to align constituencies north-south in the south Wales valleys is vital to maintaining the strong community bonds that define these regions. Having lived in both Merthyr and Pontypridd, I believe your proposal to group these areas with Aberdare effectively reflects the natural social and geographical links within these areas.
I also believe that the Commission’s decision to pair the Vale of Glamorgan with Bridgend, where I currently live, is a well-considered choice. This partnership respects the shared connections between these communities far better than linking the rural Vale with a Cardiff constituency, which would feel disconnected and artificial.
Additionally, having worked as a Practice Nurse in Ogmore Vale, I fully support the proposal to combine Aberafan, Maesteg, Rhondda, and Ogmore into a single constituency. These areas share a strong industrial heritage and long-established local ties, which should rightly be preserved in your final recommendations.
Lastly, having worked in Cardiff at the University Hospital of Wales , I see the logic in pairing Cardiff West with Cardiff South and Penarth. The A4232 provides a strong connection between these areas, while the River Taff forms a natural boundary from the rest of the city, making this a practical and coherent proposal.
I commend the Commission for its thoughtful approach in recognising and preserving local ties throughout these proposals, and I trust that this insight will continue to guide the final recommendations.
Best regards,
