Comment DBCC-7978

Dear DBCC,
Ref. ‘Senedd 2026 Review, have your say on Senedd constituency boundary proposals’
In sort, I agree with the commissions proposed Senedd constituencies, particularly in relation to pairing Merthyr Tydfil and Aberdare with Pontypridd. I was born in Church Village (Pontypridd) and have working in Hirwaun (Aberdare) and in Merthyr Tydfil. In my view it is entirely sensible to pair constituencies based on the local geography, and therefore history of the area, running north to south and not splitting them east to west. I currently live in Caerphilly and work in Merthyr Tydfil, and have spent the majority of my life living and working in these constituencies. I feel that the residents of Pontypridd, Merthyr Tydfil and Aberdare share local ties, needs and a common sense of community.
On the same basis, pairing Cardiff West with Cardiff South and Penarth, also seems to be a sensible approach. The A4232 links the M4 corridor in the area closely with Cardiff South, Penarth and Cardiff Bay. The River Taff is a natural geographical boundary for Cardiff West and Cardiff South. I have friends and family in Cardiff West and Cardiff South, and I feel that from a demographic perspective the Cardiff West and Cardiff South and Penarth constituencies are quite well aligned.
Best regards,
