Dear Sirs,
I am writing to you in response to the consultation launched on 3 September 2024 in relation to the Senedd 2026 Review (hereinafter referred to as “the document”). I welcome the election of Members of the Senedd (MSs) based entirely on a system of proportionate representation. I consider this to be a much fairer representation of the vote breakdown, thus it being more likely to improve electoral turn-out and reduce voter apathy. I strongly disagree with the increase in the number of MSs to ninety-six and whilst this particular point is not subject to this consultation, I respectfully request that my objection is noted. On the specific matters under the consultation, my views are outlined below, namely: Bangor Aberconwy Ynys Môn. Considering that Ynys Môn only has communication and road links with Bangor Aberconwy (para.1.2 of the document), I agree with the proposed merger of the two UK constituencies. Clwyd. I agree with the proposed merger of Clwyd North and Clwyd East, particularly, given that Bangor Aberconwy must be merged with Ynys Môn. Alyn, Deeside and Wrexham (Alun, Glannau Dyfrdwy a Wrecsam). I agree with the Commission’s proposal for the said constituency, based on the boundaries criteria. The Commissioner has however proposed the use of “a single spelling of Alun” (para.3.3 of the document). There is no explanation for this decision but the change of spelling in English language from ‘Alyn’ to Alun would likely lead to misspelling of a well-established name. As such, the proposed change in the English version makes little sense for both English and Welsh speakers. I respectfully ask the Commissioner to consider reverting to the name of ‘Alyn’ for the English version of this Constituency.

Dwyfor Meirionnydd, Montgomeryshire and Glyndŵr (Dwyfor Meirionnydd, Maldwyn a Glyndŵr). Although the proposed constituency covers a significant geographical area, it is the best option in terms of the contiguous combination of 2 UK parliamentary constituencies in the area. Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire (Ceredigion a Sir Benfro). I strongly agree with the proposed pairing of the two UK Parliamentary constituencies which would be uniting Pembrokeshire into one constituency (a similar proposal in the case of Clwyd). Carmarthenshire (Sir Gaerfyrddin). I strongly agree with the proposed pairing of the two UK Parliamentary constituencies and established local links between these areas. Swansea West and Gower (Gorllewin Abertawe a Gŵyr). I agree with the proposed pairing of the two UK Parliamentary constituencies and established local links between these areas. Brecon, Radnor, Neath and Swansea East (Aberhonddu, Maesyfed, Castell-nedd a Dwyrain Abertawe). I agree with the proposed pairing of the two UK Parliamentary constituencies and established local links between these areas. Aberafan Maesteg, Rhondda and Ogmore (Aberafan Maesteg, Rhondda ac Ogwr). I agree with the proposed pairing of the two UK Parliamentary constituencies and established local links between these areas. Merthyr Tydfil, Aberdare and Pontypridd (Merthyr Tudful, Aberdâr a Phontypridd). The North-South pairing is a better alternative to the East-West pairing. I agree with the proposed pairing of the two UK Parliamentary constituencies and established local links between these areas. Blaenau Gwent, Rhymney and Caerphilly (Blaenau Gwent, Rhymni a Chaerfilli). The North-South pairing is a better alternative to the East-West pairing. I agree with the proposed pairing of the two UK Parliamentary constituencies and established local links between these areas. Monmouthshire and Torfaen (Sir Fynwy a Thorfaen). I agree with the proposed pairing of the two UK Parliamentary constituencies and established local links between these areas. Newport and Islwyn (Casnewydd ac Islwyn). I agree with the proposed pairing of the two UK Parliamentary constituencies and established local links between these areas.

Cardiff East and North (Dwyrain a Gogledd Caerdydd). I agree with the proposed pairing of the two UK Parliamentary constituencies, in line with the established local links between these areas, the road infrastructure and geography of the area. Cardiff West, South and Penarth (Gorllewin Caerdydd, De a Phenarth). I agree with the proposed pairing of the two UK Parliamentary constituencies, in line with the established local links between these areas, the road infrastructure and geography of the area. Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend (Bro Morgannwg a Phen-y-bont). I agree with the proposed pairing of the two UK Parliamentary constituencies and established local links between these areas.
