Comment DBCC-8049
Dear Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru,
I write both as a Bridgend resident and private hire driver operating across Wales , to express my strong support for the Commission’s Initial Proposals regarding the proposed boundary review. My extensive experience working amongst various communities has provided me with valuable insight into the local connections and the geography that shape our regions.
I commend the Commission for its thoughtful approach to revise constituencies along north-south lines in the south Wales valleys. From my travels, I note firsthand how closely linked Merthyr Tydfil, Aberdare and Pontypridd are connected, both socially and geographically. The A470 and other local routes facilitate easy access among these communities, making it logical to group them together in a way that accurately reflects the daily aspects of the residents.
Additionally, the decision to pair Bridgend with the Vale of Glamorgan is commendable. These regions share significant community ties, this alignment highlights those connections. Key roads such as the A48 and the M4 enable transportation between Bridgend and the Vale, reinforcing the idea that these areas naturally belong together. In contrast, linking the rural Vale with a Cardiff constituency would disrupt the established relationships and create an artificial separation that does not serve the interests of the communities.
I support the proposal to merge Aberafan, Maesteg, Rhondda and Ogmore Vale into one constituency. My work takes me through these areas and I recognise their shared industrial heritage and social connections forged over time. The A465 and the B4281 provide essential links between such communities, keeping them together in a single constituency will help preserve their vital relationships.
Lastly, my experiences in Cardiff reinforce my support for the pairing of Cardiff West with Cardiff South and Penarth. The A4232 link road serves as a critical transport route, effectively connecting these areas, while the River Taff provides a natural boundary from the rest of the city, making this arrangement practical and cohesive.
I appreciate the Commission’s insight and sensitivity to the geographical and cultural connections that define our communities. I hope and believe that the final recommendations will continue to reflect these important relationships, ensuring that the voices of the people of Wales are effectively represented.
Best regards,
