Comment DBCC-8068

Prynhawn Da,

Please see below a response on behalf of the WLGA in response to the consultation on constituency pairing:

The WLGA acknowledges that in undertaking the review of the proposed constituencies for the Senedd elections, the Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru was bound by criteria set in legislation. Namely, that it was required to pair the 32 UK Parliamentary constituencies to reach the fixed number of 16 constituencies for the whole of Wales. The Commission was also required to take account of other factors such as local government boundaries, special geographical considerations and local ties that would be broken by the pairings.

At a strategic level, the WLGA notes the Commission’s proposals and the rationale set out in the consultation. The WLGA acknowledges that some of its member authorities may have specific issues from an operational, administrative or historical perspective they may raise. These views can be expressed directly with the Commission and will be based on in-depth knowledge and recognition of the views of their local communities.

Diolch,
