Comment DBCC-8075

I am submitting this representation to you as a Councillor for the Pentyrch and St Fagans ward on Cardiff Council.
My ward is a relatively large geographic area formed mainly of villages to the north-west of Cardiff and is within the Cardiff West constituency.
I want to emphasise the communality of interest and the importance of local ties we enjoy to the west of the river Taff and up towards Pontypridd.
I support the Commission not pairing Cardiff West with Cardiff North as the river Taff is a significant barrier between them. The only road bridge between the M4 and A48, which offer limited junctions/connectivity, is the narrow Bridge Road near Llandaff, where I often sit in long queues of traffic trying join the Llantrisant Road at a tiny roundabout.
Conversely, the Council has determined that the Llantrisant Road / A4119 be used to support significant development to the north-west of Cardiff, including in my ward. As they develop, these communities will link Cardiff West more closely to the Pontypridd constituency. It is also possible that we may re-open a disused railway linking these, if investment can be secured for this.
The character of the ward I represent is predominately rural. The villages of Pentyrch and Creigiau, its largest centres of population, have more in common and enjoy closer local ties with villages in the Pontypridd constituency, e.g. Groes-faen, Pontyclun, Llantwit Fardre and Chuch Village, than they do with Penarth.
Residents in my ward also use the retail park at Talbot Green and the leisure facilities around Miskin. Consequently, I would ask that the Commission considers pairing Cardiff West constituency with Pontypridd constituency.
