Comment DBCC-8082
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my concern regarding the proposal to name many constituencies in Welsh only. As Wales is a bilingual nation where both Welsh and English hold equal status, it is essential that this principle is respected in decisions made by public bodies such as the Boundary Commission.
Excluding English from constituency names risks alienating the overwhelming majority of the population, approximately 81% of whom do not speak Welsh according to census data. Constituency names should be clear, accessible, and inclusive to all residents in Wales, regardless of their linguistic background.
I urge the Commission to reconsider this decision and ensure that constituency names include both Welsh and English. This approach would better reflect the bilingual nature of Wales and ensure fairness for all its citizens.
Thank you for considering my views, and I look forward to your response.
Best wishes,
