Comment DBCC-8089
Hello,
I would like to register my objection to the Welsh only name for the proposed new constituency which will be merging Monmouthshire and Torfaen. The vast majority of people in Monmouthshire do not speak Welsh and would not relate to a Welsh only name.
You are probably aware, that towns in Monmouthshire such as Chepstow and Caldicot, have in recent years, attracted large numbers of people from the Bristol area (due to the more favourable house prices) and this risks alienating them from the democratic processes in the area in which they live.
I was born in Wales and lived here all of my life. I cannot speak Welsh and have no intention of learning - this does not negate my pride at being Welsh and wanting to take a full role in the democratic processes in my country, but having a name for the constituency that I cannot understand and therefore unable to relate to is undemocratic.
Thank you
