Comment DBCC-8091

It is unacceptable that The proposed Newport and Islwyn constituency should have a name solely in the Welsh language. The Revised Proposals states, in English, "The Commission has determined that the name is acceptable for use as a single name as it incorporates the name of the City". This is incorrect. In the English language, "Casnewydd" is not the name of the City, it is "Newport". This is especially odd considering the proposed names of the neighbouring City of Cardiff constituencies are presented in both English and Welsh. There is no acceptable reason why the majority English-language-speaking population of Newport should be treated as second-class citizens when the neighbouring population of Cardiff are not. The name of this constituency should be provided in both languages, i.e. "Newport [and] Islwyn" in English.
