I understand the need to pair communities for the 2026 Senedd election but the pairing of Torfaen and Monmouth has been done for geographical ease and does not reflect the stark differences between the Boroughs. For example using the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (2019), Monmouthshire almost in its entirety is classified as a 50% least deprived area, whereas Torfaen has areas of the 10% most deprived in Wales. The votes of people from these deprived areas will be diluted by the influx of 36,000 more affluent voters. This pairing is working against further democratisation which this project is intend to enhance.
