Here’s the updated version with a section about branding included:
I strongly oppose the proposed constituency name changes outlined in the 2026 Review of Senedd Constituencies. These changes raise significant concerns regarding their impact on local communities, tourism, branding, and accessibility.
Accessibility: Many of the proposed names are difficult to understand or pronounce, especially for those not fluent in Welsh. This creates barriers for residents, visitors, and businesses. Constituency names should be inclusive and easily recognizable by all.
Negative Impact on Tourism and Branding: Wales depends on a thriving tourism industry with clear and accessible branding. The "Pembrokeshire" name is widely recognized and associated with quality and identity. Many businesses incorporate "Pembrokeshire" into their names and branding, and these changes risk undermining their visibility, credibility, and connection with the area. Renaming constituencies with unfamiliar and complex names could deter visitors and diminish the reputation of well-established destinations.
Lack of Justification: The rationale for these changes is unclear. There appears to be no strong evidence supporting their necessity or benefit, leading many to question the purpose of these modifications.
Moreover, the limited awareness and consultation about these proposals is deeply concerning. Neither I nor anyone I know has received adequate information, and the deadline for feedback—January 13, 2025—is fast approaching. This lack of engagement undermines the democratic process and the opportunity for meaningful public input.
I urge the Boundary Commission to reconsider these proposals and provide more transparent communication about their reasoning. Constituency names should reflect the identity and interests of the communities they serve, and changes of this nature require greater public awareness and involvement.
Thank you for considering these concerns.
