Comment DBCC-8311

The choice of "Merthyr Cynon Taf" is both insulting and geographically illiterate.
Afon Taf flows through Merthyr Tydfil, so you are essentially covering the same geographical area twice.
Pontypridd has a rich history - particularly as the birthplace of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau - and rebadging the entire area as "Merthyr..." is utterly disrespectful. The same naming convention for the RCT council area often results in lines (particularly from BBC News) of "Pontypridd in the Rhondda..." which is an incorrect statement.
According to Wikipedia the Pontypridd constituency has a larger population than the Merthyr council area - yet Merthyr becomes the 'principal' area according to the proposals.
Alternatives could include "Pontypridd, Cwm Cynon a Merthyr", "Cwm Taf a Cwm Cynon", "Cymoedd Taf a Cynon" - or you could borrow from the traditional council area, e.g. "Canol Morgannwg"/"Canolbarth Morgannwg". I would also draw your attention to the local health board's name of "Cwm Taf Morgannwg" as another alternative (I accept this includes the Rhondda and Bridgend) - or the former "Cwm Taf" alone before Bridgend was included (in the days of ABM UHB).
Many Thanks.
