Comment DBCC-8323
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed constituency name changes outlined in the 2026 Review of Senedd Constituencies. I have reviewed the details of the revised proposals and have significant concerns regarding their impact on local communities, tourism, and accessibility.
1. Accessibility: Many of the proposed names are difficult to understand or pronounce, particularly for those not fluent in Welsh. This creates unnecessary barriers for residents, visitors, and businesses in these areas. Constituency names should be inclusive and easily recognizable by all.
2. Negative Impact on Tourism: Wales has a thriving tourism industry that relies on clear and accessible branding. Renaming constituencies in ways that are unfamiliar and complex may deter visitors and diminish the visibility of well-established destinations.
3. Lack of Justification: The rationale behind many of these changes is unclear. The proposals appear to lack substantial evidence to support their necessity or benefit, leaving residents to question the purpose of these modifications.
Furthermore, I am deeply concerned about the limited awareness and consultation regarding these proposals. Neither I nor anyone I know has received adequate information about the changes, and the deadline for feedback—January 15, 2025—is rapidly approaching. This lack of engagement undermines the democratic process and the opportunity for meaningful public input.
I urge the Boundary Commission to reconsider these changes and provide more transparent communication about the reasoning behind them. In the meantime, I kindly request clear guidance on how members of the public can formally submit their feedback on this matter so that I may share this information with others.
Thank you for taking the time to consider these concerns. I trust that you will ensure the final decisions reflect the best interests of the communities affected.
Yours faithfully,
