Comment DBCC-8334
Good Morning,
I write as Chairman of the South Cardiff & Penarth Conservative Federation, to offer our considered views on the proposals for the new name of the Cardiff South & Penarth and Cardiff East Constituencies, in the revised Senedd.
A Public Poll open to all Members of the Public has been taken in the last 3 weeks, and the results show a massive preference for the retention of Penarth within the Vale of Glamorgan, as distinct to that of the Cardiff constituencies - some 95% of responses express that preference.
Should however the Commission take a differing view from the General Public, then the following suggestions have been put forward for adoption:
1. Penarth South Cardiff 1
2. Vale of Glamorgan Penarth 1
3. Cardiff & East Glamorgan 1
4. Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan 16
5. Penarth-South Cardiff 2
6. Vale of Glamorgan 1
7. Cardiff South & Penarth 1
8. Penarth, South Glamorgan 1
9. Penarth, Southern Cardiff 2
The preference of the Federation would be Penarth & Southern Cardiff. This would reflect the population base of the two Cardiff areas of the new Senedd Constituency, whilst also recognising the extent of the 30,000 or so population of those areas of the Vale of Glamorgan County, who would be included in the "twinned" constituency. "Southern Cardiff" is also a "softer" and less specific name, for such a widely disparate and unconnected constituency, such as that you propose.
Thank you for your interest in our response.
Federation Chairman.
