Comment DBCC-8382
Good morning
I am writing in response to the Senedd constituency proposals. Along with the many others who you quote as has having expressed general disagreement I also do not support these proposals. The website asked whether people had opinions on the detail of the parliamentary constituencies themselves, however I am in general disagreement around the whole proposal.
• I have read through the website and can not see anywhere the why - why was this bill introduced, why do the constituencies require changing and what tangible benefits will these changes deliver to Wales?
• I can not see published online the the total estimated cost to implement these proposals. Please confirm and publish these for full transparency.
• Of the 3700 responses received how many were negative and how many expressed disagreement with these proposals overall?
• The vast majority of people living in South/East Wales have English as their first language and I personally do not support the introduction of a Welsh language name for my own constituency (Vale of Glamorgan). Have non-Welsh speakers been considered in this proposal? Asking a non-Welsh speaker to use "De-ddyrain Caerdydd Penarth" is unreasonable and I would not be surprised if people refuse to adopt the names on that basis.
Welsh money should be spent on improving the NHS and not on vanity projects and this, along with the introduction of 20mph zones (which I actually support, but not the amount of money spent on it) will quite likely see me voting very differently in future elections.
