My Council has instructed me to reply as follows, following their consideration of the proposed changes to Senedd constituencies:

In this current economic climate, when cuts to services are right across the board, we consider that this review is a complete and total waste of public resources, which would be better spent elsewhere.


However, we have carefully considered the proposal and strongly object to the proposed constituency of Merthyr Cynon Taf.

The reasons stated in the proposal of linking the areas because of socio economic links and similar character are ludicrous – if you asked people in our area, that is Llanharry and even those of Llanharan, Llantrisant and Talbot Green, which areas they identify most with – you would find that it is Pontyclun, Cowbridge, Bridgend and Pontypridd.
There are no links with Merthyr and Abercynon and therefore no cohesive constituency!

We believe that boundary should be reviewed so that the areas of Llanharry, Llanharan, Llantrisant and Talbot Green are included with either Penybont Bro Morgannwg or Gogledd-orllewin Caerdydd.
