Comment DBCC-8444

Dear Sirs,

With reference to your emails below, it is disappointing that an extension of time to respond has not been afforded to Town and Community Councils as confirmed by the attached email from a fellow Clerk. This has resulted in a situation whereby I had to request comments from members via email rather than affording members the opportunity to discuss and consider fully at a Council meeting. On that basis, the responses received to date from members of Higher Kinnerton Community Council are précised as follows:

• My thoughts are that I think this is the best of a bad situation. Combining Alyn and Deeside with Clwyd East would have resulted in a knock-on effect of enormous new constituencies, from a geographical point of view, elsewhere.

• I don't have much to offer here other than the fact that the proposed expansion for "Alyn and Deeside" to "Flint and Wrecsam" only includes half of Flintshire, pushing the northern half of the county into Clwyd which seems totally wrong to me. I am sure that half of Flintshire will feel the same. Either the entire county should be included in the revision or, perhaps more properly, Flintshire should be amalgamated with Clwyd with which I feel it has more in common than with Wrecsam. I assume the administrative boundaries remain unchanged. Admittedly cramming 26 constituencies into just 16 is always going to be hard, but I'm not sure they have got it right.

• I've tried to get my head around the proposed changes. Personally, I'd rather not be paired with Wrexham and would like to see Flintshire Senedd constituencies paired up as one county. There is mention of "boundary" changes in 2026 and I hope this doesn't mean our region become Flint and Wrexham rather than Flintshire. Their plan is to increase the number of people in the Senedd from 60 to 90 so it's probably going to cost us all money.

I would be grateful if you would acknowledge receipt of this email and noting it has been submitted in accordance with your deadline.

Kind Regards

Clerk to Higher Kinnerton Community Council
